To further strengthen fire safety on campus, effectively enhance the emergency response capabilities of faculty and students, and improve their self-rescue abilities in the event of a fire, the School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, in collaboration with the university's Security Department, organized a fire safety lecture and practical fire extinguishing drill on December 23. The activities were held in Classroom L1119 and an open area near the east gate parking lot on the Liufang Campus. Wang Zilong, a staff member from the Fire Safety Section of the Security Department, Yang Yiting, the graduate student counselor for the class of 2025, Tong Zhuang, an undergraduate counselor, and all new undergraduate and graduate students participated in the event.

Using recent campus fire incidents as a starting point, Wang Zilong vividly illustrated the prevalence and dangers of fire hazards with detailed data analysis. He thoroughly explained the fire safety details to be mindful of in daily life, such as the correct use of electrical appliances in dormitories and laboratories, keeping evacuation passages clear, and properly wearing filtered fire escape respirators. Mr. Wang also provided a detailed explanation on handling initial fire outbreaks, including the types of fire extinguishers, operational methods, and strategies for tackling different classes of fires. The atmosphere was lively, with students showing great enthusiasm and expressing that they benefited significantly from the session.

Following the lecture, students proceeded in an orderly manner to the open area near the university's east gate for the fire drill. They personally operated fire extinguishers to put out controlled fires, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice to better master the use of firefighting equipment.

Safety is the foundation of life. This fire drill further strengthened the students’ awareness of safety precautions and improved their ability to correctly use firefighting equipment. Students present expressed their commitment to keeping the alarm for fire safety ever-vigilant, disciplining themselves with strict requirements, and working together to build a harmonious and safe campus.
